A family in Kambiti Murang’a South is crying for justice and calling for speedy investigations into an incident where their kin was attacked in what was suspected to be an arson attack on Sunday evening.
The 40 year old woman was accosted by an unknown masked lone assailant as she entered her compound. The assailant ambushed the victim, Agnes Muthoni, poured paraffin on her and set her ablaze before escaping.
Alarmed by the woman’s distress cries, her husband Daniel Mwaura who was in the compound at the time of the incident rushed and rescued her as he called on neighbours to join in.
“Our homestead is totally fenced so it took a while for the neighbours to respond after we raised alarm and by then, the arsonist had already escaped,” noted Mwaura.
“We do not know the motive of the attack but we are trusting in the investigating officers to establish who attacked my wife and why and we are hoping justice will be served,” he added.
The victim was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where the medics indicated that she had sustained 55 percent burns and stabilized her condition.
Muthoni however succumbed to the burns two days later and plans to lay her to rest are underway even as her family calls for a speedy investigation into the shocking incident so that the culprit could be brought to book.
The incident was reported at Kambiti police station and the matter was taken up by the DCIO Murang’a South where investigations into the incident are ongoing even though no arrests have been made so far.
