Farmers in Igembe North Sub County have been urged to take advantage of the ongoing livestock disease control vaccination exercise which is expected to end next week.

Speaking to KNA at Lubua cattle dip, one of the designated points for livestock vaccination against skin disease, foot and mouth diseases and intestinal worms, the sub-county veterinary officer Moses M’Mbiko noted that the exercise is targeting cows, goats and sheep.

''Many livestock are prone to infections due to diseases and therefore I urge the residents of Igembe North to grab this opportunity and take their cattle for vaccination.'' M’Mbiko maintained.

He called on livestock farmers also to be vigilant in ensuring routine vaccination of their livestock to minimize or eradicate common livestock infections like skin diseases.

The officer further urged farmers to ensure their livestock are regularly dewormed and taken for dipping or sprayed against pests to keep them safe in case of outbreaks or infection.

The veterinary officer further urged residents to use appropriate mode of transporting their livestock to the market adding that majority of farmers and traders are subjecting the animals to torture by transporting them on motorbikes.

''Farmers and traders are subjecting animals into torture which sometimes result to death or stress to animals during market days. Animals should be transported in a decent way free from any harm,'' he noted.
