Information, Communications and The Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo has urged women to constitute themselves so as to access funds meant for women's empowerment.

Owalo who spoke during a meeting with Central Sakwa Umbrella Sacco at Lianda Primary School- Awendo Sub County encouraged women to form Sacco’s and cooperatives to leverage the economics of scale and empower themselves economically.

The CS called upon women to keep exploring opportunities presented by the government for entrepreneurship and economic change.

Owalo who presented Sh1 million to Central Sakwa Umbrella Sacco comprising of 26 members, disclosed that women empowerment was one of the key government agendas to uplift the Kenyan women at the grassroots level.

The CS also pointed out that the government had several opportunities available for women in the sectors of financing, trade, and entrepreneurship through funds like the Women Enterprise Fund and the Hustler Fund.

"I want to encourage women to access these finances to enable them to get involved in trade at the grassroots level for their socio-economic development," noted Owalo.

Additionally, the CS advised women to match collectively together to be able to realise meaningful economic agenda through well-established groups like Saccos and Cooperatives to live a desired economic life.

“You cannot do much if you do business alone, but collectively, women can be a powerhouse for economic transformation through engaging in meaningful and profitable ventures," said Owalo.

However, the CS affirmed that the government will continue empowering women at the grassroots level as part and parcel of developing the country to small-scale entrepreneurs to achieve a transformative agenda.

In September this year, Owalo met another women's group at Sony Sugar grounds in Awendo Sub County to empower them economically.
