Form One reporting date revealed

By Peter Ochieng

The ministry of education has set the 2024 form one reporting date.

Addressing education stakeholders on Monday during the release of the 2024 form one placement exercise at Lenana School, Nairobi, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for education Ezekiel Machogu said form ones will report to secondary schools across the country, starting January 15, 2024.

Machogu listed the top 10 schools preferred by candidates. Leading the list is Kabianga High School selected by 186,357 students, despite having a capacity of only 672.

Nanyuki High School was the second most sought-after with 158,741 applications, competing for 480 slots. Pangani Girls was selected by 144,542 students, against a capacity of 384, followed by Kapsabet Boys at 143,723 applications with a capacity of 432.

Alliance Girls' High School closed the top five slots, selected by 135,033 students with a capacity of 384. Maseno School, Nakuru High School, Butere Girls High School, Mang’u High School, and Alliance High School closed the top 10 list.

According to CS Machogu, 1,400,329 students out of the 1,406, 557 who sat for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams managed to secure placements in various high schools across the nation. Some 28,052 candidates failed to make choices of secondary schools they wished to join.

"This situation presented us with a dilemma, as we sought to ensure that every candidate had a placement that would enable them to continue their education seamlessly," said Machogu. All the candidates who scored 400 marks and above were placed in national schools, with 22,051 being boys and 20,876 girls.

Those placed in Extra-County schools are 276,746. 288,201 have been placed in county schools, while 2,225 students with special needs have been placed relevant institutions. The rest were placed in Sub County schools.

"The selection process was strictly guided by the principles of merit, affirmative action and availability of space," noted the CS.

The placement exercise marks the end of KCPE exams under the 8-4-4 curriculum as the country now transitions to the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).
