Fuel prices will rise by Sh10 each month - CS Kuria
By Peter Ochieng
Kenyans have been urged to brace for even more tough times economically, owing to steady rise in fuel prices.
Even as Kenyans negatively react to the recent increase of fuel by between Sh16 to Sh33 per litre, things are going to get worse, if not out of hand, going foward.
According to Moses Kurua, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, Kenyans should plan for fuel increase by at least Sh10 per litre each month, until February 2024.
"Global crude prices are on an upward trajectory. For planning purposes expect pump prices to go up by Sh10 every month till February," the CS shared in a post in X.
This is to say that a litre of petrol will retail for at least Sh261 in February, next year.
His post attracted support from some of his followers.
"I love the genuineness of this post. The reality is that the price of petrol is subject to a multitude of global factors beyong EPRA's control," said Naibei.
"I agree. OPEC (Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries) have reduced production affecting the global crude supply. Libya for example has just shut 4 of its terminals because of a storm. Kazakhstan is doing maintenance among others. We should be ready as the world crude oil suppliers have cut down supply by half," added Danson Mukile.
However, others vowed to vote out president William Ruto in 2027.
"Mtaitana 2027. I will campaign for Raila (Azimio leader Raila Odinga) in Central Kenya," said Martin.
On Thursday night, the Energy and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a massive increase in price of fuel.
According to the new review, a litre of fuel has gone up by between Sh16 and Sh33.
The price of a litre of Super Petrol has gone up by Sh16.96, Diesel Sh21.32 and Kerosene Sh33 13.
That means a litre of Super Petrol in Nairobi will now be retailing at Sh211.64, Diesel at Sh.200.99 and nd Kerosene at Sh.202.61.
The new prices will be operational for a month, until another review is done in mid October.
