Gachagua gifts special Olympics team Sh3 million for lunch

The Special Olympics team enjoyed a special lunch on Wednesday.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua gifted the team Sh3 million for lunch, after exemplary performance in the Special Olympics World Summer Games, recently held in Berlin, Germany.
The team scooped 15 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze, during the games.
Addressing the team at the DP's official residence in Karen, Nairobi, the second in command said the money was a token of appreciation for a job well done.
"We will support you in every way and we request the media to profile them nicely, and talk about their victories and stories. I will give you Sh3 million cash to enjoy," stated Gachagua.
On top of the Sh3 million, the team will recieve Sh10.2 million from the government.
The ten individuals who won gold medals will be awarded Sh750,000 each, while the five teams that won a gold medal will walk away with Sh100,000.
Silver medalists will walk away with Sh500, 000 each while Bronze medalist will get Sh300, 000 each.
"The government will continue putting in place structural measures for people living with mental and other forms of disabilities to live fruitful and fulfilling lives," said the deputy president.
Special Olympics World Summer games were held in Germany from 17th -25th June 2023.
It was the 16th edition, and the first to be hosted by Germany.
India was ranked first with a total of 202 medals.
