Gachagua reveals his 'two jobs' in Ruto's administration

By Peter Ochieng

Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has stated that he only has ‘two jobs’ to deliver on, under president William Ruto led Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking in his Mt. Kenya backyard, the DP said he worked so hard to deliver the region’s votes to Ruto’s presidential basket, and that he is determined to deliver on his two jobs, which include guiding interests of the community.

"This community, I mobilised you to vote for Ruto and I have only two jobs, to help the President lead the country forward and to unite and guide the interest of Mount Kenya region. That is my job description and I know my job. I don't need anybody to tell me. It is well cut out and I understand it,” he said.

He poured cold water on claims that he is at loggerheads with Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Trade and Industrialisation Moses Kuria, after a public spat over the price of fuel.

"I saw the newspaper people writing that there is a problem on the mountain (to Mt Kenya) that I am in a fight with Moses Kuria. I'm Deputy President, this is our worker; so can the employer fall out with his employee.”

Last week, Kuria rattled Kenyans when he said that those complaining about the cost of fuel can as well drill their own oil.

He said that the price of fuel will go up by at least Sh10 each month, until February, 2024 due to various global factors.

The DP called out the CS for addressing Kenyans with arrogance.

"You do not address your employer with arrogance. Do so with humility and decorum. Kenyans, like the rest of the world, are going through difficult economic times, and leaders should address them with sensitivity and empathy. Responsible leaders should be sensitive and inspire hope in the People, the hope for a better tomorrow. Talking down on the people and demoralising those who look up to them for solutions and a way out of the difficult situation they find themselves in is not good leadership. Please do not spite the people of Kenya.”
