The wife of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Gachagua has asked Christian from the Evangelical and Pentecostal churches to stand against criticism over prayers and fasting due to a fallout by some extremist pastors.

Gachagua said that prayer and fasting are strong pillars of every religion thus the churches should continue practicing without getting intimidated.

Speaking during a church service at Jesus Celebration Center (JCC) in Mombasa, the second lady condemned some public criticism against the Christian faith in regard to fasting.

“The Christian faith is based on prayer and fasting as they are pillars and foundations of the Christian doctrine. When it comes to the Pentecostals and the evangelicals, we are following exactly what the Bible tells us, and that is why we are taught to pray always,” she said.

Gachagua said as a pastor she is emphasizing on prayers as in every religion there is a place for prayers and fasting, and it is well stipulated in the scriptures on how it is to be done.

"This is a time when you connect yourself with your God. And that is what I am telling the Pentecostals and the evangelicals that they should not be afraid to pray, they should be found in a place of prayer,” she said

“I know people are now intimidated because one person went on the wrong doctrine of fasting, but we have had many fastings of the Muslims and none died, therefore, it is anything that is taken to the extreme that is wrong,” she added.

She said that it is wrong to condemn Christians wholesomely, prejudice them and intimidate people so that they feel they should not pray or fast because of one radical pastor.

Gachagua said Kenyans are going through very difficult times and the only way out is through prayers and urged the believers to pray for the nation and ask God to turn around everything and make Kenya a better country.

The cleric also requested members of the public to stop the blanket condemnation of the Christian faith, and noted that the Christians have a right and freedom to worship like any other religion.

The office of the spouse of the deputy president is working on four pillars: the boy child, widows and orphans, chaplaincy and family values and persons with disabilities.
