Game trophy recovered in Marsabit

Three people have been arrested in Marsabit County for being in possession of what the police suspect to be game trophies.

The suspects, all male aged between 33 and 45 years were arrested at a road block at Karantina area on the Isiolo-Marsabit Moyale highway by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers.

Marsabit County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Luka Tumbo said the officers who were acting on a tip off intercepted a Fuso Mitsubishi lorry registration KCZ 047W and on thorough search discovered two wildlife trophies suspected to be rhino horns.

The trophies whose value could not be immediately established were taken to the local KWs store as exhibit.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the origin of the suspected wildlife trophies was Chuka area in Tharaka Nithi County and was being transported to Moyale.

The lorry that was ferrying construction materials including paints was detained at the Marsabit police station.

Tumbo said an investigation on the matter was underway.
