The Grand Mufti of Kenya Sheikh Omar Buya has pleaded with Kenyans to give President William Ruto time to implement the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
Speaking in his office on the Finance Bill 2023 that has elicited mixed reactions Buya said the housing agenda is in line with the manifesto of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
The Mufti while applauding the president on his recent moves to curb corruption in the country urged the opposition to give the president ample time to execute his development agenda.
“The Kenya Kwanza government is barely eight or nine months old; it is still young, we should be the people who think good of him and give him enough time so that he can fulfil his promises,’’ he said.
"The president is relentless in performing his duties and has so far run the government effectively; he has already fulfilled some promises despite all the challenges. The President is a good listener and he performs his duties with lots of wisdom,’’ he added.
To achieve all the election pledges, Buya said the President needs support from all and sundry and defended the nomination of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) saying they will assist the Head of State to execute his mandate.
“When we constantly castigate him on the things he promised and he hasn't fulfilled, we are not helping him to lead the country,” Buya said.
According to the grand mufti, leaders are expected to support the President and offer constructive criticisms of his leadership.
