Government and Safaricom strengthen ties for economic growth

By Robert Mutasi

This marks a big plus in strengthening collaboration between the Government and the private sector, as Cabinet Secretary for the Treasury John Mbadi received a courtesy call from Safaricom CEO Mr. Peter Ndegwa, who is at the helm of Kenya's premier converged communication solutions.

The meeting underscored commitments by both parties toward leveraging their respective strengths for economic growth and innovation in the nation.

During the discussion, Mbadi pointed out that private sector partnerships were key in driving the development agenda for Kenya.

He exuded optimism over ongoing projects that Safaricom has, adding that its long-term vision somewhat aligns with what the government is looking at for national progress.

"Our discussion was not only educative, but it was also gratifying insofar as to what Safaricom is doing regarding job creation and the enormous contributions they are making to our economy," said Mbadi.

"Reaffirming that the government would stop at nothing to support efforts geared toward initiatives for private sector-driven growth," he remarked.

He assured them of commitment to create an enabling investment, innovation, and sustainable development environment required in building a resilient economy.

"Working together with progressive companies such as Safaricom PLC, we have the ability to move forward with technology innovation for the benefit of all Kenyans," he added.

Ndegwa, in turn, appreciated the government's disposition for always listening and working together on different issues.

He reassured Safaricom's commitment to not only continuously improving their services but also to invest in projects that create employment and stir economic activities.

Some of the key areas where the government and Safaricom can actually work together are in technology adoption, job creation, and community development programs.

The leaders reiterated their commitment to exploit other opportunities available for cooperation to enhance economic resilience and raise living standards among citizens.

"This meeting marks a promising step toward building on our successful partnership," Mbadi said. "We can drive meaningful, lasting positive change for the people of Kenya by leveraging our collective resources and expertise."

The discussion ended with an anticipation of possible impacts their collaboration might bring.

Both parties will keep the lines open to ensure that all the initiatives discussed will actually materialize into reality for the good and advancement of the whole country.

The fruitful dialogue represents the milestone in the continued partnership between government and private sectors as they continue to address the challenges of today with a view toward prosperity.
