Busia Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma has reiterated the Kenya Ports Authority’s commitment towards facilitating trade and offering a permanent solution to solve the heavy traffic gridlock, which is prevalent at the Malaba border extending to approximately 50 km towards Bungoma.
The Kenya Ports Authority embarked on the process of constructing a truck marshalling yard at the Malaba border in Busia County to mitigate the incessant heavy traffic congestion along the highway.
Otuoma said this on Thursday during a tour of the Kenya Dry Inland Port at Malaba and the Kenya Medical Training College in Amagoro for assessment ahead of President Dr. William Ruto's visit on Saturday.
Otuoma said the collaborative effort of the two levels of government aimed at ensuring the delivery of better services to the people.
The Sh1.8 billion dry port is expected to offer a solution to the much-witnessed traffic snarl-up occasioned by the rise in the number of trucks that use Malaba OSBP from 1000 to 2500 daily.
The Malaba Port will see the revival of the Railway network and connectivity of East Africa states with SGR.
The Governor accompanied by Teso North Deputy County Commissioner Stephen Wambura toured the Kenya Dry Inland Port at Malaba and the Kenya Medical Training College in Amagoro for assessment ahead of the forthcoming Presidential visit.
The governor also hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Defence and Health Respectively Thursday led by Principal Secretaries Patrick Mariru (Defence) and Harry Kimtai (Medical Services) to assess the status of the Sh. 100 million Surgical Ward at the Busia County Referral Hospital that was constructed by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
