Governor Kahiga wants CS Chirchir sacked

Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has admonished some Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) for letting down president William Ruto.

The governor said despite the president having to go to bed late and wake up early in a bid to make Kenya a better place, some CSs whose duty is 'moving up and down' are letting him down.

Of particular interest to the governor is the CS for Energy Davis Chirchir whose ministry has 'oveseen' three national blackouts in four months.

"The president wakes up before six and sometimes goes to bed past midnight trying to make this country better. The other day I came from abroad, no power, Such a CS should be sacked," he said.

"We have some CSs whose duty is to move up and down. Every time there is no power. They are supposed to be sacked."

The governor spoke at the Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri, during the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations.

During the three blackouts, key installations such as the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were adversely affected.

Kahiga accused Transport and Roads CS Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen of shifting blame each time the backup generators at JKIA, fail to pick in the face of a blackout.

"It should not be business as usual for some people to be lazy, they think it is a joke to lack power. About the generator we are told this today, then tommorrow that."

"I want to say, if they can't work we have 50 million Kenyans in Kenya. Even here in Nyeri we can produce others CSs," added Kahiga, who was elected on President Ruto's United Democtratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

The latest blackout was experienced on Sunday. CS Chirchir in his address to the press a day later said it was caused by overloaded power lines.

He warned that the country is not of the hook yet as the situation may be repeated, unless adequate investments were directed towards improving power supply across the country.
