Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has said his administration has allocated Sh20 million to the county trade and enterprise Fund in the next financial year for lending to the youth, women and other special interest groups.
The governor, who was the chief guest during the Vihiga County Bodaboda SACCO (VICBOSA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) Saturday, promised to recruit 20 Bodaboda operators as revenue clerks to collect money from the members on behalf of the county government.
Dr Ottichilo lauded the VICBOSA fraternity for growing from a membership of 370 when it was registered to 770.
He encouraged the residents to sustain the spirit of pooling resources together for the realisation of collective socio-economic development.
The SACCO chairman Frankline Muchile said they have ensured that the members adhere to the traffic rules including wearing helmets, reflector jackets as well as getting registered depending on the area of operation.
“We have ensured that the Bodaboda operators from each of the five sub counties have identification badges with a distinct colour for easy recognition by the passengers,” he stated.
He noted that the SACCO has a loan portfolio of Sh5 million and they issue loans ranging from Sh20,000 to Sh200,000 depending on the ability of the loanee to repay and once they complete repaying there is a chance for re-applying.
