89 self-help groups to get Sh4.45 million under Uwezo Fund

Some 89 self-help groups in Makueni County will benefit from Sh4.45 million under the Uwezo Fund Programme to initiate projects to combat poverty.

Among the groups that are expected to benefit include 70 women, 13 youth and 6 for People living With Disabilities (PWDs) where each group will receive Sh50, 000.

“We have fixed August 11, 2023 as the dates to issue cheques to each group. The sub counties to benefit include Makueni 35 groups, Kathozweni 33 and Nzaui 21 in Makueni Constituency,” said the Makueni Sub County Youth Development Officer Gideon Masaku Kwake in his Wote office on Thursday.

He said that the cheques would be issued at Wote PWD Centre, Kathozweni DCC Board room and African Inland Church (AIC) ground Matiliku town in Makueni, Kathozweni and Nzaui sub counties respectively.

Kwake disclosed that some of the groups to benefit were Wasya Self-help, Usumbi Wi Wendo Women, Nzamuka Self-help, Mutulani Disabled Persons, Wote Youth and Mumbuni bodaboda Youth to mention a few.

“These groups are involved in income generating projects like table banking, poultry keeping and tree nursery in a bid to earn an income to assist them educate their children besides improving their living standards,” he posed.

While advising the groups to spend the monies on projects meant for, the Youth Development Officer warned that the government would take stern action against any mismanagement of the funds.
