Soy MP Caleb Kositany has hit out at the DCI over claims that he and his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi were involved in the planning of a violent attack against ODM leader Raila Odinga in Uasin Gishu county on Friday.
On Saturday, the DCI released a statement stating that preliminary investigation had revealed that Kositany, Sudi and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat were involved in planning the attack.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the chaos was organized and coordinated by; 1. Hon Caleb Kositany, MP, Soi Constituency 2. Hon Oscar Sudi, MP, Kapseret Constituency 3. Hon David Kiplagat, speaker of Uasin Gishu County Assembly.
“In view of the foregoing, the two legislators and County Assembly Speaker have pursuant to Section 52 of the National Police Service Act 2011, been summoned to appear in person before the Rift Valley DCI Regional coordinator on April 3, 2022, at 9am, for further investigations into their involvement in the incident,” DCI’s statement read in part.
Reacting to the DCI’s summon, Kositany said he will not present himself to the regional coordinator in Nakuru, but will instead write a statement at the Eldoret DCI office.
He maintained that neither him nor Sudi planned the violence and accused the government of using security agencies to settle political scores.
“Mambo yalitokezea jana ni ya aibu. Leo kiongozi wetu William Ruto amemuomba Raila msamaha kwa niaba ya wakaaji wa Soy na Uasin Gishu kwa jumla. Ile kitu imenishangaza ni ati wanasema mmi na sudi tulipanga.. Mimi na Sudi tunakaa watu wa kupanga vita?
“Sasa wanatuita kesho twende Nakuru kuandika statement. Kitendo ilifanyika hapa Eldoret, iko DCI hapa Eldoret wanatuita kwenda Nakuru kufanya nini? Statement tutandikia hapa Eldoret… Ntaandika maneno awili tuu, hii ni ujinga na siasa,”he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday condemned the attack and publicly apologised to Odinga, adding that UDA is working with the police to ensure perpetrators are brought to book.
He called upon leaders and supporters of UDA party to embrace divergent views and exercise tolerance , even though they may not agree with the ideas of the different coalitions or political leaders.
“Yesterday there was an incident in Uasin Gishu where some violence was meted on the party leader of our opposing party, Raila Odinga. I have instructed the party to work with the police so that we can get to the root of what happened yesterday in Eldoret.
“Even as we work as a party to ensure we have an election free of violence, I also take this opportunity to apologize to Raila Odinga for what happened to him yesterday, it was really unfortunate and I hope those who engaged in this exercise regret what they did,” the DP said.
