Hundreds of people in Meru and neighbouring counties to benefit from artificial limbs

Hundreds of people from Meru and the neigbhouring counties with their legs and hands amputated are set to benefit from artificial limbs courtesy of a medical camp organised by Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood in conjunction with Hindu Samaj Meru and Narayan Seva Sansthan from India. 

Speaking during the camp held at Meru Primary School, Hindu Samaj Chairman Mr Milan Shah said this was the second camp to be held in Meru after a successful one that was held in April this year.

“We have realized there is a high demand for the limbs in this region and this is the reason we are holding the second camp with more set to take place in future. After the measurements, fitting will be done once the limbs are manufactured from India and brought to us,” said Shah.

Once the amputee gets the limb, he said, with some of them being breadwinners in their families, they will be able to run their daily chores to earn a living and relieve other family members who they depend on for mobility.

Shah appealed to other well-wishers and those who can donate anything for the success of such camps to join them in order to benefit more people. 

“The camps are not restricted to any people and we are receiving people from as far as Moyale and Mandera. For priority purposes, we urge amputees to be registering with us in advance so that they can be contacted once such camps are held,” said Shah.

 Dr Vinod Ramji from Mafuko Industries limited said witnessing the struggles people who cannot walk or do anything went through is what drove them to carry out such camps.

“By giving these limbs to such people we are trying to create an opportunity for the amputees so that many other lives can be changed,” said Ramji, and called on the beneficiaries to use the limbs in a productive way since this is the sole purpose of the entire programme.

 Ms Rose Nkirote, a representative from the MP’s office thanked the organizers of the camp adding that many people from the region and other Counties have benefited from the program.

 She said limbs for those whose measurements were taken during the April camp were ready and will be issued in the next one week.
