Timelines to be observed by political parties and aspirants ahead of the August 9, 2022, general polls are out.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has since published the timelines, which cover the party primaries, submission of party registers and lists of aspirants.
In a statement dated Tuesday, April 5, the electoral body stated that the purpose of the timelines was to lead the commission in its preparations ahead of the coming general election urging the targets to adhere to the timelines.
"The Commission draws the attention of political parties intending to participate in the upcoming General Election to the following statutory timelines. The Commission urges political parties and independent candidates to adhere to the timelines and shall periodically provide updates on General Election activities," read the statement in part.

In the timelines, IEBC directed political parties to submit a list of all their aspirants before Saturday, April 9.
IEBC said that it will not clear aspirants whose nominations do not comply with the law. Therefore, politicians are urged to follow the law during nominations.
"The Commission shall reject the candidature of any person nominated by a political party for any elective position if that candidate is not qualified or eligible for election under the Constitution, the Elections Act, 2011, or any other written law.
Independent candidates are expected to submit their documents to IEBC latest Monday, May 2, whereby independent candidates’ names will be published on Friday, May 13.
All political parties are expected to submit the names of the nominated aspirants by 28
th April and to also conduct their nominations by 22
nd April.
All the presidential aspirants are also directed to submit duly filled forms to the commission by Monday, May 23, for their clearance.
The guidelines further read that the Commission shall reject a Nomination Certificate that is not duly signed or bears any alterations
"Submit, duly filled forms of supporters bearing the names, signatures, identity cards/passport numbers of at least 2,000 voters registered in each of a majority of the counties.
"Corresponding copies of the identification documents of the voters who have appended their signatures in support of their candidature, and an electronic list of supporters in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format," IEBC directed.
