Despite Nakuru County being a water-scarce area, the Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Company Limited (NARUWASCO) losses 49 percent of its much-needed water to illegal connections, hence earning no revenue.

NARUWASCO Managing Director, Reuben Korir said to address the issue the company has established a Water Police Unit to assist in monitoring instances of non-renewable, which is currently going on at Ol’Kalou.

Additionally, he said the Ministry of Water has collaborated with them in doing a campaign duped Operation Linda Maji, Lipa Maji to address the issue. He was speaking during the company’s annual report meeting at Viwanda.

However, he noted that the company has been operating on a license valid for two years but eventually they have qualified for a five years license due to increased clientele and a much wider reach than before. The licenses are issued by the Rift Valley Water Service Board, which is in -charge of the entire Rift Valley Region.

Narrating their achievements, he said in the last financial year report they held position 18 out of 87 nationally, and termed it as a remarkable improvement.

The Nakuru County Executive for Water Dr. Nelson Mara, pointed out that the county was working hand in hand with NARUWASCO to ensure everyone gets tapped water in their homesteads.

Dr. Mara observed that the county was in the process of repairing 206 faulty boreholes identified by NARUWASCO in order to achieve the county’s agenda of clean and available water for every resident of the county.

The perennial water shortage in the county has always been the cry of manufacturers, farmers, and homesteads who spend inordinate amounts of money to purchase water from boozers, which are quite expensive, compared to the normal tariffs.
