Inter defeat AC Milan to move closer to Champions League final
By Peter Ochieng
Inter Milan are only 90 minutes away from the final of the Champions League, at least on paper.
Inter beat City rivals AC Milan 2-0 during the first leg of the second Champions League semi final, at the legendary Sansiro Stadium on Wednesday night.
Inter only need a draw from the second leg next Tuesday, to book a final spot since they last won the title in 2010 under Jose Mourinho.
Former Manchester City foward Edin Dezko and former Arsenal and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored for Simone Inzaghi's side inside 11 minutes of the first half.
Both Italian clubs use Sansiro as their home turf.
On Wednesday, AC Milan was the designated home team, which means they had a high number of fans.
Inter will enjoy the support of a big number of fans next week. Inzaghi said he team was programmed to win, right from the fight half.
"We played a brilliant first half, but it's a tight scoreline for what we did out there. It's a hugely positive night which gives us a lot of satisfaction but we're missing one more piece to attain a dream that we believed in since August."
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said AC Milan players experienced stage fright.
"Inter came out like a bunch of sprinters at the Olympics and AC Milan had stage fright."
Winner of AC, Inter tie will face winner of the Real Madrid, Manchester City clash.
