Jalang'o: Parliament is not a place for greedy people

By Peter Ochieng

Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o says Parliament is not a place to make money, as most Kenyans maybe thinking.

The first term MP told NTV in an interview on Monday that he used to make more money as a radio presenter, compared to his current standing in society as a legislature.

"If you want to join Parliament to make money, you’ll be hurt. It doesn’t require greedy people. As a media personality, I used to earn more money than now," he disclosed.

"As an MP they say you get paid Sh1 million. After tax it’s Sh820, 000. That is approximately half of what I was being paid as a presenter."

He says he is in politcs because he wants to serve, but not that he aspires to enrich himself.

The MP was elected on the ODM party ticket.

However, his relationship with party boses among them leader Raila Odinga is at its lowest point, after Jalang'o decided to work with President William Ruto for development of his people.

He says as such, he has been cut off of all ODM communications, to a point that he does not know what is going in within the Orange party.

If given a chance, Jalang'o said he would run back to Odinga, but his resolve to work with Ruto will not change.

"If Raila called me to come back home, I would run as fast as I can but nothing will change regarding my decision to work with the President. I would inform him that I respect him but still continue to perform my duties for the Lang'ata residents," said Jalas, as he is commonly referred to.

The legislature claimed that several MPs within the Azimio camp are willing to work with the head of State, but lack the courage to openly come out.
