Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Peter Munya and Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho are now among individuals being considered as possible Raila Odinga's running mate in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya formation.
Joho and Munya make the list of four politicians, seeking to serve as the next Deputy President, if Odinga is elected the 5th president on August 09, 2022.
The other two are former Gichugu MP Martha Karua and Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka.
The four names were proposed during the Thursday, April 21, 2022, first-ever Azimio Council meeting, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, in Nairobi.
They will now be subjected to interviews by a five-member committee that has been proposed, to settle on a suitable person to deputize Odinga.

According to a statement signed by Professor Makau Mutua, Raila Odinga Presidential Campaign Secretariat, a lot of considerations were put in place before the four were settled on.
“The four candidates are proposed on the basis of gender balance, political competence and regional balance.”
Even as the process to pick Odinga's running mate starts in earnest, analysts say it is difficult for Joho to be nominated as his running mate.
Like Odinga, the second term Mombasa governor is a member of ODM, one of the over 20 parties which form Azimio. It is highly expected that a running mate will come from another party in Azimio.
“His candidacy could be symbolic to make residents of the Coast region happy and have something to talk about. He could also be looking for a job since his term is coming to an end, but I do not think his choice would add good value to Raila’s campaigns,” said Professor Macharia Munene, as quoted by People Daily.
