Ruto serves pupils lunch

By Peter Ochieng

President William Samoei Ruto was in a jovial mood on Tuesday afternoon.

The Head of State freely interacted with pupils at Roysambu primary school in Nairobi, during lunch break.

And with the help of Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu and Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja, he served them lunch of rice, cabbage and beans.

He also took his plate and enjoyed the meal together with the amazed learners.

The president was the chief guest, during launch of Sakaja's school feeding programme dubbed Dishi na County.

While appreciating the county boss for the programme, Ruto said his administration will build 30 more classrooms in Roysambu primary school.

"We are going to commit Sh25 million to build the 30 classrooms and they must be ready in the next 120 days. So look for a contractor to come and do that job,” Ruto directed CS Machogu.

On his part, the governor said that one day, Kenyans will remember the school feeding programme.

"This is the only project I have sat with contractors and told them not to play around with. One day, the way Kenyans remember maziwa ya Nyayo, they will remember Ruto's food programme."

The programme entails construction of central kitchens in all the constituencies of Nairobi.

Learners will only need Sh5 to enjoy meals once the construction is done.
