It was all smiles to over 150 children living in Thika’s Madharau slums after a well-wisher donated them food and clothing to fight off the current financial strains.

The kids who said they barely have a meal a day and who have been impoverished by the slum life could not hide their joy saying it offered much reprieve to them.

John Kariuki, one of the beneficiaries said the good gesture by Broadways Group of Companies gave them hope to be positive despite the seemingly hopeless slum life.

“In the slums, we hardly have two meals a day. It’s a struggle each day. Even clothing is a problem. This good gesture has restored some hope to and we hope more well-wishers would chip in and extend their support to slum children,” said Kariuki.

In an event held at the company’s premises, the management said putting smiles on vulnerable children and having the passion to help the needy makes them attached to the community.

They said it has been in their programme to regularly feed vulnerable children from the many slums in Thika town for the past one year.

They have also been giving food rations to needy families across Kiambu County for the last three year since COVID-19 hit.

Hiten Shah, one of the Group’s Directors said that they were committed to helping those in need and will continue supporting the community in all ways.

He added that it felt encouraging to give back to the community as their efforts were now minimising school dropout rates as fewer children went to the streets to look for food.

His sentiments were echoed by his co-director Bejul Shah who added that they have also been supporting learning institutions and hospitals with donations and infrastructural developments.

Bejul hoped that the feeding programme would go on for the next three years.

Company Brand Ambassador Sammy Muraya aka DJ Moh encouraged other companies to learn from the Broadway Group of Companies and assist other needy people within their jurisdiction.

He pointed out that Broadway was also paying school fees to needy children across the country.
