Jubilation As 210 Youth Secure County Government Internships

Jubilation rent the air at the Kericho County Government premises during the launch of the one-year internship program for 210 fresh graduates drawn from all the six Sub-counties within Kericho.
Speaking during the launch of the program, Kericho County Governor Dr. Eric Mutai mentioned that the interns will serve in different departments as part of the County government empowerment programme that he noted will give an opportunity to the young unemployed graduates to gain the much-needed experience and exposure for them to compete in the job market.
Dr. Mutai announced that the Degree holder interns will earn a monthly stipend of Sh. 15,000, while the Diploma ones will receive Sh12,000 monthly.
“I am glad that the interns will now be able to assist their families financially during these hard economic times, this is a milestone for us as a County and we are proud,” added Dr. Mutai.
The governor urged the interns to network, maintain discipline and work hard in their respective departments in order to gain skills and experience within the period the one-year period.
The County Public Service Management Chief Officer Betsy Chebet revealed that a total of 11,060 applications were received but only 210 were selected in a recruitment process that she maintained was competitive, free and fair.
She said the Public Service Board took into consideration the gender, regional balance, marginalized and the minority while hiring the interns.
“Seventy-six interns will be deployed under Finance and Economic planning, Agriculture Livestock and Cooperative Management (48), Water environment, energy, Forestry and Natural Resources (19), ICT (13), Lands (12), Roads, Public Works and Transport (12), Trade (10), Education, Culture (4),” added Ms. Chebet
Also present at the function was the Kericho County Assembly Speaker Dr. Patrick Mutai, Members of Kericho County Assembly, County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers, the County Public Service Board among others.
Last week, Governor Mutai awarded a total of 42,422 vulnerable and disadvantaged students in Kericho a whooping Sh167,428,831 bursary in support of their education fee.
Among the beneficiaries of the bursary fund were 29,006 high school students, 12,209 university students and 1,218 students in National Polytechnic and Vocational Training Centres.
