Kabando faults Azimio for '80% political issues' in talks with Kenya Kwanza

By Peter Ochieng

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament (MP) Kabando Wa Kabando has faulted Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, for targeting political power in talks with Kenya Kwanza.

According to the former legislature, 80 percent of issues Azimio presented for discussions are 'pure politics and political power.'

"80% of issues listed by Azimio are on pure politics and political power. No mention of state capture inquiry or Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC), that would aid end to corruption, political assassinations, extrajudicial killings & impunity," he wrote in a tweet.

"Political power minus justice is not worth the effort, mocks maandamano," he added.

Issues Azimio wants to be given high priority are: reduction in the cost of living, audit of the 2022 presidential elections, bipartisan reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC), as well as inclusion in national affairs and respect for political parties.

On the other hand, some of the issues the Kenya Kwanza has brought to the table are re-constitution of IEBC, implementation of two-thirds gender rule in Parliament, inclusion of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in the Constitution, creation of the office of the leader of the opposition and the embedment of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary in the constitution.

On Thursday, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who is the Azimio delegation team leader wrote to Kenya Kwanza, proposing that the first meeting be held on Monday next week.

Azimio wants the talks to conclude by end of this month.
