Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has poured cold water on Deputy President (DP) William Ruto’s invitation to join the Kenya Kwanza political formation ahead of August 09, 2022 polls.
Kenya Kwanza brings together Ruto’s UDA party, Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC and Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya among others.
Speaking in Gatanga, Murang’a County on Friday, April 01, 2022 while campaigning for ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid, Musyoka said he is fine being in the Azimio la Umoja coalition, led by Odinga.
Musyoka said he is determined to support Odinga until the end.
“I said because of Kenya, I will support Raila for the third time because Kenya is more important than an individual,” said the Wiper Democratic Party leader.

Musyoka supported Odinga’s presidential race in 2013 and 2017 under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), and the National Super Alliance (NASA) arrangements respectively.
He was Raila’s running mate in both instances, losing to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto in the two elections.
Musyoka urged residents of Mt. Kenya and Kenyans at large to reject Ruto’s presidential bid on August 09, stating that he ought to have resigned from his role as DP.
“If we are for democracy, the day Ruto accepted UDA delegates’ endorsement to run for president while still serving as DP under the Jubilee party, his next sentence would have been to resign as DP for the proper conduct of the election.”
Addressing residents of Mwingi in Kitui County early this week, the DP seemed to send them to Kalonzo, the message being to inform him to join Kenya Kwanza.
“You heard recently they went and confused Kalonzo to sign some papers and later on said he is not aware of what he signed. Tell Kalonzo to look for me so that we work together,” Ruto said.
After declaring support for Odinga’s presidential bid last month, Musyoka said he was not clearly aware of the contents of the agreement he appended his signature on to back Odinga.
He later recanted that claim, indicating that he is firmly behind the former Prime Minister’s ‘match’ to State House.
