Kenya Power announces temporary Shutdown for Prepaid vending system

The Kenya Power and Lightning Company has announced temporary Shutdown of its prepaid electricity vending system over planned maintenance. 

In a statement, The power distributor announced that the five hour Shutdown will take effect from Saturday 9th at night to Sunday 10th. 

"Our prepaid vending system will be temporarily unavailable due to essential maintenance from Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at 11:50 PM to Sunday, September 10th, 2023, at 5:00 AM.

The company further announce that maintenance will affect purchase of electricity units through the commonly used paybill number. 

"During this time, customers will not be able to purchase electricity tokens via prepaid Paybill number 888880 or Airtel Money. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to our customers," stated Kenya Power.

With the above options unavailable, customers can still purchase tokens via other systems, including banks and Kenya Power token agents.

The company has apologize for the inconveniences with consumers expected to plan electricity purchase in advance to avoid being left in the dark. 

Kenya Power sells and distributes power to about eight million kenyans with most adoption the token purchase system for electricity consumption.
