Kenya to host CECEFA under 18 women tournament
Kenya will play host to the 2023 Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) under 18 women's championships.
According to Barry Otieno, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chief Executive Officer, the two week tournament is slated for June 3rd to June 17th, 2023.
"This is the first regional tournament to be hosted in Kenya since 2021 when the CAF Women Champions League CECAFA qualifiers, were held in Nairobi," said Barry as quoted by the FKF website.
He said the tournament reflects on FKF’s twin priorities of youth and women development.
“We are happy to have the privilege to host this tournament. It aligns perfectly with our focus areas as a federation and we look forward to a fantastic showcase in June," added the CEO.
Kenya finished third, during the 2019 edition held in Uganda.
FKF has also bid to host the CECAFA U18 boys championships, slated for November this year.
Succesful hosting of the women championships will give Kenya an upper hand.
