Kenyans urged to register for SHA

The Government has urged Kenyans to support the Newly Launched Social Health Authority (SHA) by registering in order to access quality and affordable Healthcare services.

This comes a month since the Social Health Authority was launched on October 1st, to support the Government's Universal Health coverage. 

Speaking during a media Engagement at Afya House on Tuesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah M. Barasa emphasized the need for collective efforts to enhance registration and healthcare delivery. 

Dr. Barasa highlighted the importance of collaboration, calling on the media and other stakeholders to work together in promoting SHA registration.

“How can we work together to ensure Kenyans register for SHA and go to hospitals to experience healthcare services themselves,” she posed. 

To facilitate the registration process, the Social Health Authority has established a customer center to address any issues, and utilizing various channels to communicate with the public. 

According to MOH, The government is also implementing means testing for households, with an insurance premium being developed to support families in need.

Dr. Barasa noted that approximately 80% of Kenyans would benefit from this initiative, emphasizing the importance of families registering to experience the healthcare services offered. 

Dr. Barasa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to all Kenyans, reiterating that primary healthcare services will be available up to Level 4 until awareness of these services is widespread. The goal is to improve the overall quality of healthcare and facilitate better health outcomes for all citizens.

The government has also insisted that the Social Health Authority is inclusive and will leave no one behind in access to quality and affordable healthcare. 

“I urge all Kenyans to embrace these transformative reforms and register for SHA to access the wide range of benefits it offers. Under this new programme, Primary Health Care will be completely free.”CS Deborah Barasa said during SHA rollout. 

The process targets over 36 million Kenyans both in the working and Non-working class. 

The Social Health Authority (SHA) will play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of this initiative, ensuring that all Kenyans have access to essential health services.

The Government has assures all Kenyans that no NHIF funds will be lost during our transition to the Social Health Insurance Fund. All contributions will be securely transferred to the new Social Health Authority, ensuring patients' right to treatment at any institution.
