Kibaki's body arrives at Parliament for public viewing [PHOTOS]

By Peter Ochieng The body of Kenya's third president Mwai Kibaki is at the precincts of Parliament. The body, draped in the national flag was taken to parliament this morning from the Lee funeral home by the military, which has since taken over a big chunk of Kibaki's burial plans. President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected at Parliament buildings at 10.00 am to officially receive the body, paving way for public viewing. President Kenyatta announced Kibaki's death to the nation on Friday, April 22, 2022, stating that the Country had lost a dedicated public servant. "H.E. Mwai Kibaki lived a dedicated life of public service. We salute a notable father figure in the chronicles of our Nation. A leader who strove so hard and accomplished so much for his country. A Nation he so deeply cherished and served with commitment and an unbending will to improve the lives of our people," he said. "As we mourn this immeasurable loss, we recall with eternal gratitude President Kibaki’s patriotic journey in service to his country, which can be traced way back to Kenya's fight for liberation," added Uhuru, Kibaki's successor. A state funeral will be held in Kibaki's honour on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the Nyayo National Stadium, before burial a day later in Othaya, Nyeri County.
