A land challenge has led to delays in the implementation of a Green Mini-Grid Program in Turkana County.

This was revealed during a meeting between a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) and Deputy Governor Dr John Erus in his office, to discuss the progress of the programme in the county.

French Development Agency Regional Director Helene Ngarnim said the project has supported various project developers, including Renewvia and KUDURA Power East Africa, in establishing sites in Turkana.

However, it was revealed that the project encountered a challenge with land issues, leading to a constrained timeline in utilizing allocated funds.

Ngarnim led the team in presenting updates on the GMG; a project funded by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO ) and EU AITF aimed at developing 80 mini-grids across six counties in Kenya, set to conclude by March 31, 2024.

Dr Erus assured the delegation of the county's commitment to resolving the land issue promptly.

He emphasized the Government’s dedication to collaborating with partners to uplift people’s lives and acknowledged the pivotal role of the French Development Agency.

The meeting was attended by Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a and a host of chief officers and representatives from the French Development Agency.
