Lookman on the double as Nigeria knock Cameroon out of AFCON

Ademola Lookman’s brace helped Nigeria through to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final as the Super Eagles crashed Cameroon out in a match played on Saturday night.
Nigeria broke the Indomitable Lions in just nine minutes when Semi Ajayi poked from close range But, a lengthy VAR check concluded that the defender strayed into an offside position and Nigeria were denied the goal.
An mistimed touch by Oumar Gonzalez allowed Victor Osimhen to seize on the loose ball, race forward opening for Ademola Lookman, whose shot was fumbled into the net by Fabrice Ondoa giving Nigeria the lead.
Into the second half, Lookman was on eye for his second of the night but his free kick from 20 yards went wide.
With Cameroon desperately looking for a goal, the Super Eagles silenced their efforts when Calvin Bassey’s low cross was powerfully volleyed by Lookman into the back of the net doubling the advantage for Nigeria.
At the end of the match it was the super eagles who booked their quarter finals ticket as they also went on a fifth consequitive competitive match undefeated by Cameroon.
Jose Peseiro men will now face Angola in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Cameroon who were lashed out by their football president and Legend Samuel Eto for not being 'Patriotic' have now crashed out of the AFCON round of 16 stage for the second time in their last three finals appearances.
