Luis Enrique appointed PSG coach
By Peter Ochieng
Former Spain and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is the new Paris St. Germain (PSG) manager.
Enrique has been handed a two year contract at the French Ligue 1 champions, which will see him stay in Paris until 2025.
He takes over from Christophe Galtier who has been sacked after just one season in charge.
Enrique is back in football management for the first time since leaving his post as Spain boss after the December, 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It is his first club assignment since leaving Barcelona in 2017, where he successfully won a treble of the Champions League, La Liga and Copa dela Rey titles.
At PSG, he will link up with Neymar who was one of the key players, alongside Lionel Andres Messi and Luis Alberto Suarez, when Barcelona won the treble during his time in charge.
Messi left PSG after the lapse of his two year contract last month.
Enrique, the former Barcelona and Real Madrid player said he is glad to have landed the PSG job.
"The project is in line with the people investing here. We want to play football that will please the fans, but will above all bring us results. Paris Saint-Germain have to aim high. I'm looking forward to learning a new language, discovering a new country and such a beautiful city with my staff. I've been working with them for a long time " he said.
"They are young people working at a very high level, and who still want to improve. We have met with a number of people at the club, and we're going to try and get the most from the means available to me."
He is expected to lead PSG in fight for a champions league title.
