The Bungoma County government has put in place a 15 member taskforce and initiated a process to review and amend the health services Act 2019.
According to Health and Sanitation CEC Dr. Andrew Wamalwa, Governor Kenneth Lusaka feels the Act needs to be reviewed to fit into the current changing financial plans.
Speaking in Webuye Dr Wamalwa hailed the Governor’s move saying the change was inevitable. He expressed optimism that the team will do a great job.
"Do not focus on today's challenges within the health sector, do not lose sight of the future of our health sector in your reviews," the CEC said.
Wamalwa urged the team to develop a vision for the health sector in the County.
The task force members were also offered letters of appointment as per the gazette notice.
Dr Wamalwa said that the department received feedback from various stakeholders including relevant departmental committees of the county assembly of Bungoma, unions, civil society organizations, health workers and development partners, which pointed to glaring gaps that need to be addressed urgently.
The 15 member taskforce will be chaired by a renowned human rights litigant Prof. Nyukuri Kundu Barasa.
Wamalwa said the team will carry out a comprehensive review of the Bungoma County Health Services Act, 2019 within 20 days.
