Malaba Giant FC and Harvest of Hope (HOHA) bounced back from defeat with 3-1 victory in FKF Division 2 leagues against their opponents as the league enters the second week.
The border derby saw Malaba Giants from Teso North Sub County melt the gas of Mayenje Santos from Matayos Sub County by plowing them 3 goals to 1; where striker Philip Ekudam scored a brace in Tuesday's football match.
The Giants’ head coach Philip Manyasa applauded his team for putting up an outstanding performance that saw them edge out experienced Mayenje Santos.
“Compared to last month, we have taken a serious approach to today's match because we knew we had a strong opponent and that is what put us on edge to winning this game,” said Coach Manyasa.
Elsewhere, the Harvest of Hope (HOHA) football club from Matayos constituency, Busia county, has continued to showcase its good results in the FKF Second Division West Zone A' league after beating the visitors Kona Rangers of Kakamega 3-1 in the second-round match played at the Busende primary school field over the weekend.
HOHA's goals were scored by players Josky Onyango, Edwin Karani and Charles Okwi, while Kona Rangers scored their only goal after HOHA's defender was tackled by winger Thomas Temesi.
HOHA Coach Nicholas Okubala said they were taking each game as final, urging his players not to be distracted as they continue with their zeal to secure a slot in the next league come next season.
“Our victory today is attributed to the different strategies and tactics that we apply in every match plus the tremendous support from the management,” said Coach Okubala.
On his part, Kona Rangers Coach Erick Musika, has admitted that their season so far has not been as expected after the team served one year’s suspension alongside Mayenje Santos after FKF quashed the outcome of that season.
“We have lost in the last two consecutive games but at the moment, we are still establishing a functional team chemistry,” said Erick Musika.
In other news, Obucuun Border from Among'ura Teso South who defeated Samitsi 1-0 away last weekend, were upset after losing 0-2 to their visitors Bungoma Stars, while Opet FC from Lukolis Teso South won a draw on their visit to Mt Elgon against Kipsis Arrows.
After the completion of the two opening matches, KYSA of Vihiga, HOHA of Busia and Webuye Sportiff of Bungoma each have 6 points although they are separated by the goal difference respectively.
