Man arraigned in court for stealing from a church

A man appeared before a Kabarnet court charged with breaking into a church and a home where he stole 45 pieces of timber and assorted goods worth Sh 48,000.
Timothy Kiprop is accused of breaking and entering Full Gospel Churches of Kenya, Chambai, in Baringo North with intent to steal and stole 30 timbers valued at 24,000, property of Haron Kiptoo who had stored them in the sanctuary on diverse dates of February 2023.
He was also charged that on different days in the same month in the same neighborhood, he broke into the home of the complainant and made away with 15 pieces of timber valued at Sh 12, 000, one high-density mattress worth Sh 9,000 and a duvet costing Sh 3, 000, all totaling Sh 24,000.
Kiprop who also faced an alternative charge of handling stolen goods in violation of Section 321 (1) as read with Section 322 (1) faced a second count of housebreaking and stealing contrary to Section 304 (1) of the Penal Code.
The accused was arrested on July 7, 2023, at around 5 pm after a long search and was found in possession of some of the timber was also charged with handling stolen goods in violation of Section 321 (1) as read with Section 322(1).
The suspect however denied all the charges read to him before Senior Resident Magistrate Purity Kosgei claiming that he was wrongfully accused.
The magistrate in her ruling granted the accused a personal bond of Sh50, 000 with one surety of a similar amount or cash bail of Sh 30,000.
The case will be mentioned on July 26 and a hearing set for August 2 where three witnesses have been lined up to testify.
