Jamlek Muchira Wambugu, 73 years old, from Kiangungu village in Kirinyaga Central Sub-County, was today arraigned in a Kerugoya court on charges of spreading the infectious Tuberculosis disease.

Caroline Wambui Muchira a Public health officer in the sub county told the court that Wambugu was examined and found to have tuberculosis on May 5, 2023, at St. Mary's Immaculate hospital in Kerugoya, where he had gone for a checkup.

He was thereafter put on treatment which he did for two months before defaulting in taking his medication.

The matter was reported to the health department, which prompted the health officials to track him down.

Wambungu, in his defense, told the court that he was unable to raise money for transport to the hospital which led him to stop the treatment.

He requested that the court to set him free and help him get medical aid at the nearest government health facility.

Kerugoya Principal magistrate Kipkorir Cheruto set Wambugu free advising the health officials to use alternative methods and make sure Wambugu gets full treatment.

The magistrate ordered that the victim must start getting treatment at once.
