A Kabarnet court has allowed police to detain a man accused of killing his wife for 14 days to enable them complete investigations.

Senior Principal Magistrate Vivian Ratemo granted the investigating officer Lameck Okeyo his wish after he filed a miscellaneous application, to piece up a case of a possible murder.

Okeyo told the court that the suspect Silas Barchipa Chemjor is believed to have murdered Florence Kibor at Matingot village in Kaptich Sub Location, Kiponjos Location within Baringo Central on 30th May 2023 at an unknown time.

He said that investigations are not complete, noting they need time to trace all relevant witnesses to record their statements.

“I pray to this honorable court to remand the suspect at Kabarnet police station for fourteen days to enable us complete the investigation,” said Okeyo.

The investigating officer further argued that an autopsy of the deceased body should be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

In her ruling, Ratemo also ordered the suspect to be escorted to Baringo referral hospital for mental assessment before taking plea.

The case will come up for mention on June 14.
