Five family members have been summoned by police for interrogation over the death of a Grade One pupil who allegedly committed suicide.
Homa Bay Sub County Police Commander Peter Maluki said the boy identified as Tony Blaire, a pupil at Pap Ndege primary school died on Monday evening under unclear circumstances.
He said the boy died in his parents’ homestead at Pap-Ndege village in Homa Bay Sub-county.
His father Joshua Ouma said he was informed of the son’s death when he was in Homa Bay town on Monday evening.
“I got a text message asking me to rush home but I was not told what had happened. I made further enquiries and realized that there was a problem in my home,” Ouma said. He rushed home and found that his son had died.
He said the boy’s neck was tied with a bathing net made of manila. The net was tied to a wire used for hanging clothes. The body knelt down with the net on the neck.
The body was naked and had some bruises.
According to Ouma, the death was discovered by one of his sons who was going to a latrine.
Maluki said the matter had been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for investigations.
Maluki said the DCI had summoned members of the family for interrogation adding the circumstances which led to the boy’s death is not clear.
“The matter is subject to investigations because there are some facts which do not add up as far as the cause of the boy’s death is concerned. Our colleagues from the DCI are handling the matter,” Maluki said.
The boy’s body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary.
