Manchester United thrash Chelsea to secure Champions League football
Manchester United secured Champions League football with a comfortable win over Chelsea on Thursday night.
United beat the Blues 4-1 at Old Trafford to cement a Champions League position for next season, with Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford on the score sheet.
Joao Felix scored Chelsea's only goal in the dying minutes of the game.
The win means United's perennial rivals Liverpool, ranked 5th on the log will play Europa League football next season.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag hailed Casemiro as a massive player.
He was signed from Real Madrid at the start of the season.
"He's a massive player. Such a good signing. He adapted so well to Premier League football. He missed many games and we noticed that. When he's not there our game is different. You see how important he is in everything. This week twice he's scored. The first goal is always the most important of the game. He's doing a massive job and we're really happy," Ten Had told Sky Sports after the game.
However, it was not all rosy for the Red Devils as Brazilian winger Antony was taken off on a stretcher in tears after suffering a lower leg injury in a challenge with Trevoh Chalobah.
The defeat against United is Chelsea's 8th in the last 10 games.
Interim manager Frank Lampard is expected to leave after the weekend's last match of the season.
Former Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino is headed to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea's next boss.
Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United are the four teams to have secured Champions League football, for next season.
