Residents of Kiamaina village in Karatina Ward, Mathira Constituency are living in fear after four marauding jumbos invaded their farms.

The villagers say the huge mammals invaded their farms at night two days ago and have destroyed crops in their farms.

Speaking to KNA, the villagers say the jumbos posed a major threat to their school going children, who always wake up early in the morning.

John Mwangi, a parent, says he is forced to wake up early every morning, so that he can escort his two children to school for fear of the animals.

"We are in panic mode, our school going children are not safe as the jumbos are roaming in the village. We want the KWS to drive them back to their habitats in animal parks. We are not going on with our daily activities as usual. We are fearing for our lives," said Mwangi.

Residents have complained that a herd of four elephants has been terrorizing them and now want them relocated immediately.

However, the area Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Watson Weru has said Kenya Wildlife Services officers have already been deployed in the area to drive the marauding jumbos back to the forest.

He termed it as unfortunate that the elephants have been terrorizing residents, destroying crops in the farms, yet residents depend on agriculture.

“I know many of our people have great hopes in farming activities and I call on the KWS to drive back the animals to their habitat,” said Weru.
