MCAS back motion to impeach Siaya deputy governor
By Peter Ochieng
Siaya deputy governor William Oduol is a man under siege.
Majority of the Members of the County (MCAs) in the County have backed a motion to impeach him, over wrangles with his boss, governor James Bob Orengo.
Trouble started when Oduol accused Orengo of irregular withdrawal of funds in the county coffers, as much as over Sh5 million in a day.
38 out of 42 MCAs voted in favour of the motion on Monday, moved by East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguru.
Three MCAs were absent with apology, while only one voted against the motion.
However, the County Assembly under Speaker George Okode resolved to establish a special committee, on the matter of the intended removal of Oduol from office.
Speaker Okode said the 14 member committee will give Oduol an opportunity to be heard, besides getting the views from the public.
He directed that the committee reports back with its findings by June 8, 2023.
Majority leader Michael Otieno said the committee has a big work up it's sleeves.
"The special committee shall investigate and report on all the grounds upon which the proposed Motion has been relied upon... within ten (10) days of its appointment, on whether or not it finds the particulars of the allegations against the deputy governor to have been substantiate."
Oduol has been at loggerheads with Orengo, over claims of mis-management of county funds.
The motion came a day after Siaya County ODM delegates unanimously resolved to expel William Oduol from the party, in a bid to compel him to resign from position of deputy governor.
