Bungoma Kuppet Chairman Mr. David Barasa has called on the government to review the medical schemes for teachers downwards saying the two have become a burden to most of them.

In an exclusive interview with KNA, the Unionist said that the teachers are currently registered under two medical schemes, AON Minet as well as NHIF and paying for both is a huge burden to the employees,” he said.

Barasa asked the Members of Parliament to review the medical schemes and help relieve teachers from the heavy burden.

The Unionist lauded Kanduyi MP and his counterparts from Kimilili and Bumula constituencies for being at the forefront to support education programs.

“It is my plea that the other MPs in the county should emulate the three MPs and support education programs for a better tomorrow," Barasa said.

Barasa, however cautioned MPS against over-committing NG-CDF funds towards payment of school fees at the expense of other key development priorities.

“It is not bad to help the needy, but when our MPs over-commit especially on matters paying fees then parents, including those who can afford become lax," he said.

Separately, Kanduyi MP Mr. John Makali said that he was committed to ensuring all children in the constituency were in school regardless of the challenges facing them.

He said it was only prudent to invest heavily in education to ensure that the future of the county is in safe hands.
