Members of the public in most parts of the country have been warned to brace for heavy rainfall that could cause floods for the next few days.
In a circular released on Wednesday, the Kenya Meteorological Department said that rainfall experienced in some parts of the country will intensify and spread to other parts of the country including Kilifi County.
“The heavy rainfall being experienced over the northeast, northwest, and central highlands is expected to intensify and spread to Nairobi, the southeastern lowlands, the western sector, and the coast on Thursday 2nd November,” the circular stated.
According to the department, the intensity of the rainfall is projected to reduce on Monday the 6th of November over the southeastern lowlands and parts of the northeast. These rains are likely to be accompanied by gusty winds.
The weatherman has advised residents in the affected areas to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near windows with grills when raining to minimize exposure to lightning strikes.
People have also been warned of possible damage to property by the strong winds like roofs being blown off and trees getting uprooted thus the public has been urged to exercise caution during this period.
“The strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees, and cause structural damages. People in landslide-prone areas especially over the slopes of the Aberdare ranges, Mt. Kenya, and other hilly areas over the western region should be vigilant”, the weatherman warned.
The Met department circular also notifies that they will provide updates if conditions change significantly.
