Meru blogger Sniper’s murder case

Five people were arraigned before a Kiambu court for the murder of a Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.
The five including Kenneth Mutua Matiri, Fredrick Muriuki Kiugi, Frankline Kimathi ,
Timothy Kinoti , Murangari Kenneth Guantai, were on Friday paraded before the court to in relation to the ongoing murder case after the body of the blogger was recovered last month.
Preliminary reports indicated that the blogger who has ben critical of the Meru County government was reportedly abducted on the 2nd of December 2023 after he was lured by the suspects for a truce with the Governor of Meru.
However he was reported missing thereafter before his body was found several days later when the Government pathologist, Johansen Oduor in his autopsy report ruled the cause of his death was due to strangulation raising suspension.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) then took over the case and on 4th of January 2024 detectives from Homicide Investigation Department in DCI made arrests in Meru.
The case has since elicited protests in Meru compelling the prosecution lead by Evelyn Olunga requested that the suspects be detained for their own security and prevent interference with evidence.
The court granted the temporary request but the final ruling on the matter would be delivered on Monday date 15 th January 2024.
