Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has joined Wiper-Kenya Party a week after resigning form the ruling Jubilee Party.
Sonko was welcomed to Wiper at the party's headquarters in Nairobi by former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka. He joined the party as a life member.
By joining Wiper, Sonko is a member of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio La Umoja, which also includes Jubilee Party, and about 30 other parties.

According to reports, Sonko is seeking to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat during the August 9, 2022, General Elections.
Sonko was unceremoniously impeached from office on December 4, 2022, over allegations of corruption while at the helm of City Hall.
Kalonzo welcomed Sonko's decision to join Wiper, stating that the party is growing by day.
Sonko, in a letter on March 10 resigned from Jubilee Party, stating that the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led party failed to stand by him during his impeachment.
He thanked the party for having sponsored his candidature and wished them all the best in their future endeavours.
“Please accept this letter as my formal notice of resignation as a member of Jubilee Party effective March 10, 2022. This is in the exercise of my rights to belong to a political party of my choice as enshrined under the Constitution of Kenya,” his letter to the party reads.
