Mombasa County establishes 36 rescue centres as floods wreck havoc

Mombasa County in Partnership with the Kenya Red Cross has established 36 rescue centers across various wards in the county to avail basic shelter for registered displaced persons.
The centres will also provide basic essentials such as food and sanitary supplies.
The country is currently experiencing unprecedented rainfall that resulted in widespread flooding with the rains have persisting in the coastal country since Friday.
The county has also put in place rescue teams to handle and deal with emergencies while conducting evacuation plans.
On Saturday evening, Governor Abdulswamad overseed the preparation of relief packages set to be distributed to the 3,800 families that have been displaced in Mombasa by the unprecedented El Niño rains.
The county has also released a contact hotlines to reach out for rescue and medical emergencies.

The heavy rains in the county have saw some passengers evacuated from a flooded bus by holding on to a rope amid chest-high water.
Others stood on top of the bus with umbrellas and raincoats as they waited for their turn to pull themselves to safety in Kisauni district, nearly 500 km (310 miles) from the capital Nairobi.
At least 46 people have died in flood-related incidents in Kenya since the rainy season began less than a month ago, according to aid groaid group Save the Children. The toll is expected to rise.
