Recently, it emerged that social media accounts belonging to lawyer and political activist Morara Kebaso were hacked after posting a string of controversial posts.

Speaking on October 12, 2024, Kebaso said some of the tweets posted under his name were not his and do not represent his view.

He said this after his phones, which were confiscated by Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations in a recent raid at his offices, were compromised.

Kebaso, a vocal critic of the current government, has been under scrutiny following his anti-government activism. His office was raided by DCI officers on 30th September 2024 and taken in.

His lawyers have since questioned the legality of the operation, arguing that they were denied access to Kebaso while he was being held at Nairobi Area Police Station.

The phones confiscated during the raid are suspected to be the ones used to compromise his social media accounts.

He said that initially, he did not know the hacking since he was very busy monitoring his social media.

However, when he revisited his settings for the account, he notices suspicious logins and unauthorized posts.

Some of these posts sparked public outrage, including a heated exchange with fellow lawyer Miguna Miguna. Kebaso has since apologized to Miguna, claiming the offending messages were posted by hackers.

This incident is the latest in a series of troubles that this activist has endured, amid multiple arrests and bouts of confrontation with the police over the past months.

Kebaso heads the INJECT movement, which has confronted the administration repeatedly over government projects, demanding accountability and transparency.

Despite these challenges, he remains steadfast in his activism, vowing to keep up the fight for reform and justice.

Kebaso is now carrying out different strategies that would protect him from future attacks and could rally more support from both his online and offline followers in pursuit of changes in Kenya's political landscape.
