Moses Wetang'ula lands new role in East African Community

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula was elected President of the Bureau of the East African Community- Speakers during the 18th Meeting of the Bureau of EAC Speakers of National Legislatures and the East African Legislative Assembly, EALA at Emara Ole Sereni Hotel, where Wetang'ula expressed deep appreciation for the trust his colleagues have reposed in him.
In an acceptance speech shared across his verified social media accounts, Wetang'ula had pointed to the responsibility for leading the collective aspiration for prosperity in the East African Community.
He sent special congratulations to his predecessor Dr Tulia Ackson, Speaker of Tanzania's National Assembly, commending her exemplary leadership and commitment to strengthening the bonds of unity among EAC member states.
Wetang'ula specially hailed Dr. Ackson for her contribution toward the successful hosting of the East African Games, saying that it laid a strong foundation in regional cooperation and economic development.
Wetang'ula assured Kenya's firm commitment to promoting the EAC integration agenda as he took over this important docket.
"We stand ready to work hand in hand with our counterparts across the region to further our shared aspirations and common objectives," he said.
He further declared Kenya ready to host the upcoming EALA Games that will take place in Mombasa, describing the city as richly culturally diverse and scenic in its beauty.
Wetang'ula assured the participants that the gathering would tighten regional bonds while allowing the members an opportunity to get away from their hectic schedules.
The newly elected president underlined parliamentary diplomacy as a very important tool in the enhancement of regional cooperation and development.
He then called upon all his colleagues to team up their efforts in building a stronger and resilient East African Community for sustainable prosperity of the people in the region.
As he concluded his address, Wetang'ula called for a collective sense of movement: "Together, we forge forward toward a brighter, more integrated East Africa."
His election and remarks gave rise to optimism for continued collaboration among the East African nations as they work hand in hand toward the advancement of integration and economic growth in their quest for regional unity.
With Wetang'ula, the future might be bright in the East African Community and pave the way for higher levels of cooperation on sustainable development in the sub-region.
